I really don't know how to put this, so I'm just going to say it.

I got kicked out of the Monster Truck show for being too drunk to stand.
Current Mood: Can't wait until Monsterjam 09

Alison: "I wonder if I should do that whole Diva Cup thing before I go out tonight."

Craig: "Dude, if anything is going to make you bleed tonight, it's going to be monster trucks."

11:10 pm - Moving!
When I applied to Universities, UVic and SFU, I wasn't really thinking too hard about things. I more or less just wanted to get it out of the way, and get back to not having to think about those things. I got the acceptance letter from UVic, I had been accepted into my second choice, I was lukewarm about the whole thing and knew I'd have to jump through more hoops to get where I wanted to be. I also applied to SFU at the same time. When SFU accepted me, I was actually excited. That was that, I was off to Vancouver.

If I don't like The Big City, and it turns out to be all those things that people who like small towns say it is, then I will find out for myself. If I like it, and I believe I will, then there's so much more to like about a bigger city. Maybe when I get down to specifics I won't like this Big City, and go find another.

My brain is completely wrapped up and twisted at the possibilities that changing location offer me. I can't tell which are which, but some are pipe dreams, some will happen, but all are possible and dependent on me, and I'm up to that.

I've spent a lifetime here doing something that I had dreamed of doing when I was younger. It was good and bad, but mostly good, and taught me so much and has made me amazingly skilled at what I do. I could stay and things would be great, but I need to close this chapter because I haven't plateaued yet.

Besides, you only get to reminisce when you leave.

Oh man, freaking Alison making ridiculous entries in my livejournal. If someone comes to your door and asks if I'm dead, do me a favour and say yes. I'll make it worth your while.

There's something inately satisfying about the whole ./configure and make process. I think I'll go compile a kernel for the hell of it.

Woo! Master Sargeant.

Work goes well. Life goes well. Going to go up to Camosun today, and try and register for classes, or at least fill out the form that you need to fill out. My luck has probably run out and I won't be able to avoid having to pay the $150 dollars this time.

I'd rather play World of Warcraft than play LiveJournal. It's much more rewarding. I can see myself playing it for a long time to come, particularly with the team work aspect that I encountered recently.

I'm still amazed that there's actually good and bad players in that game. At a cursory glance, the game appears to differentiate players based purely on how long they have spent playing their character, and gaining new levels. However, since there are a few handfuls of different skills to manage, each with a different use in a different situation, the good players are the creative and quick thinking players, who know when to use a particular skill.

Add team work in there as well. When you're part of a group, you've all got different skills and strengths, and the team that will be most succesful will be the team that plays to everyone's strengths, and works together. For instance, on the weekend our group of 5 was having trouble with a particular area (Stromgarde Castle), we kept dying because we weren't working together very well. Later on in the day, it was just 2 of us, and we managed the entire area with no problems.

I dunno, that's why I love this game. Just so you know. :P

That's all, for now.

I can't remember the last time I checked, or wrote in livejournal. I guess I do check it often. However, I didn't bother to check it all weekend, probably even before that. I could check the last time I wrote in it, but that's not the point.

I've been sick, and my muscles have been acting up, so I ended up hurting my neck/shoulders this weekend. Now I've got to do work all week and will maintain that injury for a while. Oh well.

Feel like I haven't been doing much lately, but I don't really care. Now that it's basically summer, I'll do more. Was thinking about learning to sail (then I could take people sailing!) or drive or something. :)

Dear Craig,
Remember that time you sent yourself 252 error emails because you forgot that errors were going to your email?

Good job.

02:37 am - The exact opposite of your world closing in on you.
When I started playing World of Warcraft, I didn't know that I'd rekindle the old geek habits that had laid dormant for the last 5 or 6 years. The kind where you and your friends go over to each others house, and play video games and hang out, and interact with each other in the game, while you sit in the same room as the other one.

It sounds silly and boring, but stick with me. There's a time and a place for long winding conversations, loud parties, drinking until you can't stand, cozy walks around the neighbourhood, watching a couple movies, and playing video games late into the night.

When I was younger, the late night video game binges, surrounded with a friend or two, some snacks, and maybe a tv for background noise, was the sort of thing that I thought we did because we weren't cool enough to do anything else. Of course, you actually liked it, but that's hard to admit when everything else around you is telling you that you shouldn't like it,

The 5 of us. Two at the C-Lab, three in their respective homes across the city. We hung out and leveled our characters a bit, and played around. I'm going to try to get the other permanent resident of the C-Lab hooked when he returns.

I feel balanced and normal, and happy with my lot. These are the times you're supposed to write about. Of course there are points of conflict, things you need to do, and stress that is weighing on you, but when you feel like this, you know it's all okay.

04:12 pm - Craig Hates the Internet: Part I
Some days, I hate the internet.

This item on Fark.
The headline of the link seems to assume that NASA is just making stuff up, then the people who comment follow suit. There's nothing in the article to say that NASA is delaying for false reasons, just the person who submitted the article to Fark in the first place. The commenters seem to think that they know more about how winds affect launches than NASA does.

This item from Cory Doctorow on BoingBoing.
I know the MPAA is a large corporate entity who loves to exercise their rights to get more money, but that doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to reality when they appear to be doing something wrong. When you use another person's code that they have made freely available, it is common practice to leave their comment in, with the link to their site. You don't need to put a link for everyone to see at the bottom of your page.

This site wasn't built by the corporation, it was built by someone the corporation hired. How do people not realize this? A web designer just doing what they normally do, and then the MPAA gets jumped on for it. The post, if there should be one at all, should have been "Another webdesigner fails to give another person credit for a small code snippet."

I tried making this entertaining to read, but it just turned into complaining.

"Gee, I don't know about World of Warcraft. I haven't gotten into it so far, I don't think I will."

Then I proceed to play a good solid hour and a half of it before getting tired and going to bed. Hrm!

Does anyone else love these chocolate bars? I'm pretty sure that that they keep making them because I buy one every so often and that's probably enough to keep them being produced. I just realized that these things are made by Mars, and these things are basically mars bars filled with coconut.

Yum.

In the year 2006 I resolve to:

Post only about chocolate bars I like.

And make up fake resolutions
